Santiago Peralta, founder of Pacari Chocolates, winner of the gold medal for dark chocolate at the 2013 International Chocolate Awards, said, “In terms of chocolate, the world now respects Ecuador a lot.”

Santiago Peralta and Carla Barboto built a business based on socially and environmentally sustainable principles to ensure that their products support the well-being of the land and the community around it. Combining a passion for sustainable business and a commitment to preserving the native Arriba Nacional cacao, they developed Pacari Chocolate - the first single-origin organic chocolate made entirely in Ecuador.

Ecuador is a country with a history of cocoa production that goes back more than 300 years. Although the country has been recognized as an exporter of cocoa, it is only in recent years that it began to really work in the hands of small-scale farmers.

Pacari prides itself on paying the highest price to cocoa producers, supporting the conservation of diverse cropping ecosystems and maintaining a good relationship with farmers' communities.
